A Sparkly Purse

Closed

Made this for a special little girl who loves pink, the only thing she loves more is things that sparkle! (Girl after my own heart) So I combined the two by using some lovely yarn that I found on clearance at Michaels, Loops & Threads Dewdrops in “Tourmaline” and “Diamond”. I used the “…WITH LOVE” – Pillows of love by ND Studio – Nunzia Diglio (who you should totally check out by the way! Some really lovely-looking designs) and just didn’t stuff it basically. Here’s my notes from my Rav project page:

The pattern is entirely charted which I like but it needed a bit more detail as I was guessing a bit here and there about where I was supposed to be. It helped immensely when I realized that it starts with a simple square of single crochet and then you work the treble doubles that shapes the top of the heart and then finish it up by working in the round. Also, in the last two rounds, rather than working two single crochets at the center of the top of the heart, I think it would look better to slip stitch those two stitches, as it’s not as defined as I would like. Overall I love the pattern though, it looks great as a purse and it was fun to crochet.

I decided it actually looks more like a flower petal than a heart, which made me think of one of my favorite poems:

Cherry Blossoms Adrift

Pink petals passing
Scents above so high
Painted porcelain perfection
Blossoms caress the sky

Swaying silent shroud
Suitors strolling by
Pink petals passing
Lover’s gentle sigh

Pastel hues falling
Slow fluttering grace
Pink petals passing
Lining streams in lace

Pink petals passing
Smoothest transit by
Soft essence floating
In most subtle lullaby

Inducing springtime slumber
Upon a satin shore
Sailing with the current
Pink petals pass before

Knitter’s Pride Crochet Hooks

I recently won a giveaway over in the Knitter’s Pride group on Ravelry and received a lovely Dreamz 7 (4.5mm) hook, I LOVE this hook! It’s so smooth and easy to use, I just got it a couple of days ago but I just had to find a project to use it for! πŸ™‚ So my current crochet project is another Elise Shawl, I’ve made one before in a bulky wool yarn and this time I thought I’d go with a worsted weight cotton.

Inspiration Overload!!

I’m really never short of projects or inspiration for projects (I have a box full of crochet, knit, and jewelry patterns, not to mention a dozen or so cards and a notebook full of my original ideas) but sometimes I’m looking for something new and unusual, something I’ve never seen before and something that will inspire me so much that I’ll closet myself in my room and won’t come out until I’ve finished something no matter what that something is.
One problem I have with some crafts is that I’m impatient and don’t want it to take forever, I can’t even say it’s always worth the wait when I finally finish something because I tend to pick up something else and get interested in it so the only reason I finish the first project is because I hate leaving things unfinished.
(I know, that’s terrible isn’t it???!!!!)
:coughs:
Anyway…… back to the inspiration; I’ve been meandering around Pinterest, Ravelry, and various blogs lately and the inspiration is getting to be to much!!! I would have to live to be 100 and craft at least one thing a day to ever finish! And of course, that’s if I don’t find even more stuff!!! Which I know I will, so I guess the question is; how do I prioritize? I’m really just figuring that out, to start with I’m setting a limit to how many projects I can actually have started (that’s not to say that if inspiration strikes I won’t drop everything else, but I’d be silly not too! I figure you should always work when you’re inspired if you possibly can, everything turns out better and you’ll appreciate the finished item more if you know it’s your best) and working on Christmas/birthday presents is right at the top of my list! (I don’t want to be crazily crafting the night before a Christmas party or on Christmas morning this year!!!) But I also want to take time to craft things that I want to make, inspiration doesn’t always last during an entire project but one way to keep it up is to work on or with things that would be inspiring to you to begin with.
And to add the recent overload: The oddest thing inspired me last week! The cracks in a bit of pavement; I was sitting in a car, just waiting… and it was a cold day so I was kinda huddling under my coat with nothing really to do except stare out the window at the sky (which got old quickly ’cause it was cloudy and gray) so I started looking at the ground and I noticed the cracks were sort of shaped like a squashed doll’s face, and so a new crochet pattern emerged!! You might be seeing it soon (don’t worry, it’s not a squashed doll!!! Although that could be cute for a Halloween project…..)

Pineapples, Baby Things, and Test Crocheting/Knitting

I love test crocheting/knitting!! It’s a fun chance to work with designers and other testers and is great if you’re hoping for a designing career yourself (which I am, and I’ll be writing a lot more about that soon!!). Last autumn I did four secret tests (meaning I couldn’t share pictures until the patterns came out), the patterns were recently published so I thought I’d share:

First off is the Bonnie Baby Hat by Kelly Menzies, it’s available in the February issue of the UK magazine Let’s Knit!

Also from Kelly Menzies is Lux Baby Mittens and Lisbon Baby Booties (both available in the February issue of Let’s Knit!):

I had a lot of fun with the baby things! Especially the booties, they’re so sweet and tiny!! But I also did a shawl test for Maria Segares last September, the
Pineapples for Everyone Shawl is easily my favorite crocheted shawl pattern, the design is lovely and works up quickly (and can be made with any weight of yarn and appropriate hook) so I expect to be making another one soon! The pattern is free and you can find it by clicking on the picture it will take you straight to the pattern on the Crochetvolution site (a site that I highly recommend checking out more of!!):

That’s it for my secret testing! Though I’ve been doing other tests and in fact just finished one the other day, I’ll share those pics some other time though! This is getting a little picture-heavy πŸ™‚

Christmas Crafting

I’ve been shamefully neglecting my blog (again) but I swear I’ve had good reasons! I’ve been busy with Christmas (and other) crafting, the slide show below is what I’ve finished up lately (that isn’t still secret! Which reminds me; I should really wrap some presents!!)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

And yes, there will be more after Christmas! πŸ™‚

Lil’ Bunny Cupcake is complete!

I finished my Lil' Bunny Cupcake!!!
Turquoise isn’t really little though, I made her with a size 5.5 mm (I) hook so she’s more “toy-size” than “decoration-size” πŸ™‚
It’s such an easy and quick pattern (I especially liked how the ears were worked, they were actually fun!) it would be a great introduction to amigurumi. I did add a little shawlette around her shoulders for some more color, I think amigurumi should always be colorful and fun (except maybe if it’s for Halloween or something like that) Anyway, here she is:
